Bangor on Dee Recognised with Gold Standard Status for Visiting Owners




The Racehorse Owners Association today announced the recipients of Gold Standard Award status to 12 of Britain’s 61 racecourses. Divided into two categories, Large and Small Racecourses, Bangor on Dee received the Small Racecourse Gold Standard status for the first time.

Measured by a range of factors, including the quality of racing and attendance figures, Bangor on Dee, alongside Hamilton Park, Market Rasen, Musselburgh and Sedgefield, was considered to provide owners with the best raceday experience and will hold the Award for the next 12 months.

As newly crowned Gold Standard Award holders, Bangor on Dee will now be in contention for this year’s ‘Racecourse of the Year’ accolade at the annual ROA Horseracing Awards, to be held in London on Thursday 7th December.

Alan Pickering, Chairman of the ROA’s Raceday Committee, said: “The competitive nature of the Gold Standard Award was seen to greater effect than ever before this year, with the closest finishes thus far.”

Bangor on Dee’s sister course, Chester Racecourse, was also award Gold Standard status for the 10th consecutive time in the Large Racecourse category.
