Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse is a left handed jumps racecourse, nestled in picturesque countryside and surrounded by idyllic Welsh hills. The racecourse offers racegoers an entirely unique experience, especially since it is the only racecourse in the country to not have a grandstand. Bangor-on-Dee was first used for horse racing in 1859 and all these years later, horses still race on virtually the exact same track.
In the modern day, many of the top trainers send their horses to race at Bangor-on-Dee as part of their education. Paul Nicholls, Donald McCain, Alan King, Phillip Hobbs, Nicky Henderson and Jonjo O’Neill all have regular runners. Since 2006, Bangor-on-Dee has also hosted point-to-point races by amateur local hunts.
Bangor-on-Dee is the sister racecourse of Chester Racecourse, a flat racing track just across the Welsh-English border in Cheshire. Whereas Chester’s racing season runs from May to September, Bangor-on-Dee is uniquely suited to be able to race year round.
In addition to its racing heritage, Bangor-on-Dee has branched out to offer services ranging from weddings and conferences, to exhibitions and events. This is made possible by Bangor-on-Dee’s two on-site restaurants, The Wynnstay and The Paddock.
