Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse are delighted to announce that Patrick Chesters, currently Head of Gaming at Chester Race Company, has been appointed as the new General Manager. Patrick, or Paddy as he is commonly known takes over from Jeannie Chantler who led the racecourse for over two decades, ensuring the successful progression of the national hunt course.
Paddy joined Chester Race Company in 2012 after an early life in farming and 20 years as an independent bookmaker. In 2018 he took over the role of Head of Gaming to oversee the in-house betting operations at both Bangor-on-Dee and Chester. The pandemic gave Paddy the opportunity to look at other areas of the business and the industry, in particular the Clerk of the Courses role and racecourse management. His love of racing, in particular National Hunt helped him secure the position of General Manager at Bangor on Dee. A keen horseman, Paddy’s spare time is usually spent riding out for local trainers or preparing for Charity and Amateur races on his horse, Dieu Vivant. He will continue his betting role at Bangor-on-Dee and Chester, made possible by two great in-house Gaming teams.
Speaking about his appointment Paddy said: “I am delighted to be given the opportunity to take over the stewardship of Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse. I would like to thank Jeannie for her unwavering commitment over the last 20 years and I look forward to the challenge of driving the success of the racecourse further. There is already a great team in place at Bangor-on-Dee, led by Head Groundsman Andrew Malam and Clerk of the Course Andrew Tulloch. I am very much looking forward to starting work with them at our first fixture of the year, the Hen Galan Meeting on 12 January.”
Commenting on Paddy’s appointment, Richard Aston, Chairman of Bangor-on-Dee said: “I am thrilled that Paddy is joining Bangor-on-Dee as General Manager. His experience in the racing and gaming industry, combined with his passion for horses will help to expand our race day offer further.
Paddy will be supported in his role by an experienced grounds team, led by Andrew Mallam and Clerk of the Course Andrew Tulloch. Paddy will begin his role in the new year and will lead the racecourse through the 2023 racing season at Bangor-on-Dee.”
Racing returns to Bangor-on-Dee on 12 January for the Hen Galan Meeting. Tickets and hospitality packages are available to purchase at www.bangorondeeraces.co.uk.
