Owners & Trainers

Syndicates are most welcome and, with a declared runner, will be entitled to six Owners Badges and lunch. 

 Syndicates choosing not to have lunch may elect to have up to an additional six complimentary Owners’ Badges (i.e. a total of 12). Additional badge requests will be considered subject to availability. Please contact Jeannie at ownersandtrainers@bangorondeeraces.co.uk  

Jeannie, Lily, Sue, Sarah-Jane and Harriet are on hand to help and look after you, during your visit to the racecourse. 

Reserved for Owners and Trainers, this is situated adjacent to the Owners & Trainers car park, close to the Weighing Room and Parade Ring.  

We are pleased to offer Owners six complimentary brunch per horse in the Owners & Trainers Pavilion.  

Should you require extra badges or places, please contact Jeannie at  ownersandtrainers@bangorondeeraces.co.uk and she will do her best to assist subject to availability. For syndicates, brunch may be foregone and swapped for badges, if preferred making a total of 12. 

Names booked in on the PASS system will automatically be booked in for brunch.

Brunch comprises of Home baked Danish & croissants with a selection of jams & preserves. Selection of cheese, date and apple chutney, fruit cake, oatcakes & cheese biscuits. Hand carved glazed streaky bacon joint, Pork & leek sausage, black pudding, confit tomato & mushrooms, hash brown, baked beans, scrambled egg, bread roll. Complimentary tea and coffee is available throughout the day.

Vegetarian, Vegan and Gluten-Free are all catered for. If you have any specific concerns, please email our team using the address above.

The Racecourse is all single storey, making all areas easily accessible. If you have reduced mobility or a disability, or require additional assistance on raceday, please contact Jeannie at ownersandtrainers@bangorondeeraces.co.uk 

 The Owners and Trainers Pavilion and the Winning Connections Room are both accessible by wheelchair. 

Hearing Loops are available at the Owners and Entrance and also at the Owners and Trainers Bar areas.

Bangor-on-Dee lies 25 minutes to the south of Chester, close to the A483. 

Car 

Bangor-on-Dee is well-signed from the A483 heading south. From the north take the M56, at junction 15 take M53 south. Continue onto the A55, at junction 38 take the A483 to Wrexham. Continue past Wrexham, at junction 1 take the A539 towards Overton-on-Dee. Turn right onto the A528 towards Overton-on-Dee. Just as you enter the village of Overton-on-Dee take the first left along Argoed Lane. At the end of the lane, where it meets the B5069, turn left 

From the South and Midlands, take the M6 and then the M54, at junction 3 take the A41 to Whitchurch and then the A525 towards Wrexham.

Train 

Wrexham General Station is the closest railway station to the Racecourse.  

A free bus service operates from the Racecourse on racedays. The bus leaves the station ninety minutes before the first race and returns twenty minutes after the last race. Please check race times before planning your travel by bus from the station. Priority will be given to rail users and please remember to keep your ticket. 

By Air  

Helicopter landing facilities are available, by prior arrangement. Please still book in through PASS and email the Racecourse Manager, Patrick Chesters at pchesters@bangorondeeraces.co.uk your eta.

Viewing can be from the grass bank overlooking the course, on the Big Screen or the multiple televisions in the Owners & Trainers Pavilion. 

Following your race there will be a presentation in the Parade Ring to the winning connections.  

 The winning, 2nd, 3rd and 4th placed connections are invited into the Entertainment Suite to watch a reply of the race and enjoy a glass of champagne.  

 Winning connections will receive a bottle of champagne, a memento, a photograph of their winning horse and a video brochure of the race. 2nd, 3rd and 4th connections also receive video of the race on a USB.

The Racehorse Owners Association (ROA) has produced a useful handbook – A Guide to Racehorse Ownership. This is free, comprehensive and designed for existing and potential racehorse owners and covers a broad range of subjects, designed to demystify racehorse ownership and make it more accessible to a wider audience. 

Types of Racehorse Ownership: 

• Sole ownership (An individual has 100% share in the horse) 
• Company (A company can register as an Owner, owning horses 100%) 
• Partnership (Two or more people, who are members of the Partnership, are registered as owners and share a percentage of the horse) 
• Syndicate (A share in a percentage of a horse that is managed and administered by the Syndicator/s. It is not necessary for members of the Syndicate to register as owners) 
• Racing Club (A subscription to experience racehorse ownership. It is not necessary for members of the Syndicate to register as owners) 
• Leasing (Ownership of a racehorse for a set period of time)

The Racecourse received the ROA Gold Standard from the opening of its Owners and Trainers Pavilion in 2017, and again in 2018, 2019, 2022 and 2023. No award was issued during the pandemic. 

From 2015, alongside the Gold Standard, an award was created for the Large Racecourse and the Small Racecourse of the year. Bangor-on-Dee won the Small Racecourse of the Year in 2018.

The racehorse is at the heart of everything we do. On every raceday there is a minimum of three specialised equine vets on site on every raceday to attend to any horses that may require treatment.  

 There is also a specialist horse ambulance in attendance on the day.
